Am I consuming enough/too much protein?
While protein is historically the most important macronutrient, when it comes to keto, the rule does change slightly. Here at JRF, the rule is 1g of protein per pound of your lean body weight or more; however, when following a keto diet, your protein intake should only be about 20% of your total calorie intake. Consuming too much protein will result in gluconeogenesis: a process in which your body will treat all excess protein like carbs, and convert the excess protein to glucose. On the other hand, not enough protein will, of course, result in muscle breakdown.
